Razzi dazzle at Acoustix

Mama Razzi shone out as truly professional and accomplished artists at this popular acoustic showcase in their first live outing of the year. A good sized and appreciative audience was treated to four tracks that featured just piano and vocals, and which included the original ballad version of the upcoming single As I Kiss You.

The evening was a chance for Harriet and Nick to get back to their live roots, and with even George Michael admitting in his recent BBC ‘Live 8’ interview that small audiences terrified him, they delivered their four original songs in a polished performance that impressed with its ever-maturing vocal and musical handiwork.

Opening with the catchy, feel-good A Little Bit of Summer, Harriet’s rich tones and Nick’s melodic vocal harmonies filled the dimmed and smoky red room to lift the mood on a rainy June night. Club hit Show Me Love followed, the moving tale of unrequited love that left the crowd eagerly awaiting the second half.

Having broken the ice, Mama Razzi made a confident return after the interval that left any initial nerves behind. Firstly Nick took lead vocals for the powerful Don’t Come Back, where it was especially evident how skilfully the two singers had developed their harmonies since their last performance at the Kashmir Club.

Then it was time for As I Kiss You, the final song and the one the crowd were all waiting to hear. The same depth of feeling in Harriet’s vocals which had initially attracted Madonna’s producer Mac Quayle now came through again as Mama Razzi finished their set with a powerful rendition to the intimacy of a kiss.

If the crowd’s response marks the level of an evening’s success, Mama Razzi received louder applause than all the other acts combined. And the good news for fans is that Nick and Harriet intend to spread some more ‘Mama Razzi magic’ by performing around London again in the coming months.
