Now preparing for the imminent commercial release of the gorgeous ‘As I Kiss You’, there is a very special bond at the heart of London based duo Mama Razzi which has seen them fashion classic and contemporary sounds into the elegant and sophisticated concoctions that are just waiting to be unleashed into the musical world.
“We produce lovely songs, real music for real lives, poetry from the heart” says lead singer Harriet Cater. “They’re intimate, epic - and fun!” adds her musical partner Nick Reeve (songwriter, keyboards and vocals) whose soulful, easy lyrics aim to inspire and touch their audience, “It’s all about making the connection”. Placing themselves well away from any notions of the obvious and the ordinary, this is emotional and passionate music that comes from the fire they share in their hearts.
In three years, Harriet’s strong, rich vocals and Nick’s unique and powerful songs have made for a heady mixture of emotional pop and anthemic club tracks. This has seen Mama Razzi sign to the successful independent dance label Susu Records, which plans for them to break through to the mainstream and sell alongside today’s top selling UK and international chart acts. It’s been quite a journey, one fuelled by tenacity and belief and which has now been brought sharply into focus with Grammy-nominated producer Mac Quayle helping to fully realise their soundscapes and complete the puzzle.
After meeting and working together at the cocktail bar Nick ran in Brixton, their performance experience and trained backgrounds in music (Nick) and acting (Harriet) have combined to provide the proven musicianship and ability to bring lyrics to life that has captivated audiences at the rawest level in live outings and club PAs. “Acoustically we glide, as well as being recording artists” says Harriet, and with over two album’s worth of “warm, fresh and tender” material to call upon it will soon be time to do justice to the variety in their repertoire. For these two like minded people, their hard work towards emulating the power of their influences is now geared to fruition.
